Growth Chart

Ryan is growing so fast. Jamie and I want to find a growth chart to keep track of his height. We also want one that we can hang in the house and won't clash with our decor. I found a couple that might work.
These are custom you can pick the colors and patterns!

Valentine Centerpeice

I really love this centerpeice I found here! Cut some foam into a heart shape, add roses then pin leaves on the outside. Simply Beautiful!

What are you afraid of?

This is a real picture! Great White Shark! I am a little creeped out!

  1. Sharks, Jaws did not help, neither did open water, sea world or the Discovery Channel. I love the ocean, but try not to think about Sharks!

  2. Dark (I know silly but I prefer a light on). I make Jamie leave lights on for me. Once I am safely in bed the lights can go out!

  3. Scary Movies or documentaries. Really anything spooky makes me uneasy, I have a very vivid imagination!

  4. Getting a Kidney Stone, I have had them before and they are more painful then having Ryan! Once in was in New York with my mom, I thought I felt one coming on and I burst into tears. Luckily it was a False Alarm.
  5. Spiders, I am afraid of black widows, and sometimes wonder when I go into the garage if there is one in there. Then I quickly get out! On my mission in California, we were teaching a woman who lived alone. One day we had an appointment with her. When she answered the door I almost screamed out loud. Her entire forehead was sticking out about 4 inches. It was oozing and disgusting. She had been bitten by a black widow in her sleep. I am itching and squirming right now! True Story!

  6. Being a passenger in any car. I have a little bit of anxiety (Jamie might say a lot) when other people are driving. Another mission story, I was companions with girl who drove so badly I feared for my life every day! I have not been the same since. I am a nervous back seat driver and tend to grip the handles until my knuckles turn white.

And now I am curious, what are you afraid of?

Tagged

This is my first time tagged by my friend Aimee. I figure its fun to share things people may not know about me.

  • Where did you meet your husband? At work- I was his boss. He would leave diet cokes on my desk, and would help me with tasks that no one else would. when he would ask me out I would turn him down because we worked together. I had called into work because my car wouldn't start. He heard about it and came right away. To thank him I took him to lunch. He wouldn't let me pay, he looked at me and said " this is a date". It took a couple more weeks before I finally gave in.
  • First thing said? I'm sure it was "Hello I'm Emily nice to meet you. Welcome to our company" I do remember he smiled and asked me questions,(where are you from? etc...)
  • 1st date? It was a really nice date. I even remember what I wore really cute banana republic pink pants! We had dinner in Old Town Alexandria at the Chart House a really nice restaurant that over looked the Potomac river (we also went to the same restaurant on our wedding night). You could see the Washington monument all lit up. We walked around outside. It was really beautiful! We danced under neath a lit gazebo, and he tried to kiss me. I let him give me a quick kiss, (in case you think he was moving to fast we had known each other for 5 months)
  • 1st kiss? You might think that it was the night of our first official date, but I did meet him one night for a quick dinner after work, we decided to play pool, and talk. We had a really nice time. That was 2 months before our first official date. He tried to kiss me and I gave him a quick kiss. As I was driving home that night I decided to tell him that I was not interested. Valentines day was only 2 weeks away. Even though I had turned him down he brought me a huge bouquet of beautiful roses.
  • How long did you date? We dated for 8 months before we got engaged.
  • Where did you get engaged? Well Jamie had planned a date, but I was really sick with a terrible cold. He was taking care of me. I was in bed, he had brought me some movies and medicine. We were watching a movie and he leaned over and proposed. It was not the ideal situation but sweet and he had the ring and was excited.
  • Where were you married? We eloped at a beautiful home along the Potomac river.
  • How did the reception go? We didn't have one, because we eloped. But when we get married in our church, we will be having a party! How could a wedding planner not plan her own party?
  • Where did you go on your Honeymoon? We moved to Utah 3 days after our elopement. We were busy packing and getting ready for our big move. We drove separate cars all the way from DC to SLC hoping to make it in time for Christmas! One of our cars broke down three times, the transmission went out twice, we got it fixed in Nebraska, we made it to the state line and it broke down again. So it got towed back to Nebraska with half of our belongings. At that point we were so late getting home, we decided to drive the other cars the rest of the way and Jamie would come back after Christmas for the big van. We had to stay in the most random cities, wherever we broke down. Jamie felt really bad because I cried a ton on that trip! I tried to do some nice things to make it special (aka dinners and a few funny sites), and we talked on our walkie talkies along the way! The most funny thing I will remember is it was so cold and we had a love sac on the top of the van, it fell off and Jamie and I were out on the freeway in the middle of a snow storm trying to get it back on. We had a dog at the time, and somehow we were able to sneak her into every hotel we stayed at and didn't get caught! We had added 4 or 5 days more then we had wanted, and finally pulled into My parents home at 2 pm Christmas day! I have made a promise to never move in our own vehicles again! One nice thing was my dad paid for us to stay at a few nice hotels as we traveled, I was so glad, a nice room made the trip bearable.(we got the honeymoon suite too!) So again after we get married in our church-maybe we will go on a real honeymoon!
  • Do you have a song? Yes Goodbye by Clint Black and Winona Judd. We listened to that song all the time while we were dating. Jamie would sing it to me!

That was fun- I tag Megan, Sadie,Teresa,Amanda and Amber

Dinner Group

I am In Charge of planning a Dinner Group once a month with the women in my church. I love these monthly activities, and look forward to getting creative and having some fun. Tonight was January's activity. We decided to have a dinner recipe exchange. Each person brought an entree they would take to someone( if they had a baby or were sick) or that their family enjoys. We tried each dish and swapped recipes and talked and had a really nice time! I was excited to Make my Chicken Parmesan Crepes. They are so different and yummy! Here is the recipe, you can half it. It makes over thirty crepes! They are a little time consuming because you make the crepes one at a time but it is worth it!

SAVORY CHICKEN CREPES
Crepe Recipe (I make two double batches)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
DIRECTIONS
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs and milk. Gradually add in the water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. I use my smallest sauté pan. Pour into hot pan using a 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly. The edges will peel away slightly. I loosen with a fork.
Cook the crepe until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Set aside, separate with wax paper so they wont stick.
This makes at least 30 crepes. It makes two 9 X 13 pans
Filling:
▪ 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast.
▪chicken stock or bouillon. Enough to cover chicken breast and boil 8-10 cups
▪3 regular sized blocks of cream cheese.
▪ ½ cup chopped celery
▪ 1 green onion sliced really thin including green stem may want to add more if you like onion.
Preheat oven to 350-Boil chicken in stock until cooked. Let cool. Set out cream cheese to room temp. Saute celery in 2 tablespoons of real butter until soft at the very end add green onion. Once chicken has cooled shred chicken in a large bowl, add celery and onion and cream cheese. Mix well, salt and pepper to taste. Make sure to keep the prettiest part of the crepe on the outside. Spoon two tablespoons of mix into the center of each crepe. Roll tightly into rolls. Spray Pam on the bottom of your pans arrange crepes, with end side down. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle good grated Parmesan cheese on top. Bake until warmed through. Parmesan will be crisp and melted. Enjoy! Great for a party or special event.

A new word!

I don't know if I have mentioned that Ryan speaks very few words.
  • dada
  • whats dat?
  • whats dis?
  • mmmm
  • and now HOT

I think after getting burned yesterday he was suddenly aware of Hot! I was giving him a bath this morning and told him the faucet was hot. Then I showed him the flat iron and said HOT!

A few minuted later he looked at me and said clearly "HOT" and pointed to the faucet.

Lesson Learned!

Now I wish he would just say mama!

Accident Prone!

This morning was a typical morning, Ryan and I woke up went downstairs had bowls of oatmeal with blue berries and toast. We read some books and played some games. Then we went upstairs, showered, and I had just plugged in my chi straightener. It really does a good job and is really hot! And before I could save him Ryan grabbed it and the rest was history. He had burned his hand. I felt awful as I put his hand under the faucet of cold water. He was really upset, I have never felt so bad. He was hurt and I couldn't fix it. I iced a few towels and gave him an otter pop, hoping that by holding it he would stop crying and find relief. Finally I got a large cup, filled it with snow and water, and he put his hand in it. We sat on the sofa for two hours, he kept his hand in the cup the entire time, until he fell asleep. I was so happy that he fell asleep. I knew he must be feeling better.

After his nap he was a typical happy one year old. We had to take my Mom to the airport, so we went to go pick her up. We stopped to see my sisters new house in SLC and headed home. About two hours later, Ryan was playing on his rocking horse and flipped over it forward into the coffee table. I looked up and his face was covered in blood!(bloody nose) I thought to myself not again! I held him for an hour. He seemed very content in my arms.

It was a hard day,I really haven't accomplished anything I had planned. Even so, there is nothing better than holding my little one! I love that he feels safe in my arms. I am just hoping that he makes it without a concussion by age two!

A little Sundance

The sundance film festival has been on my mind because it is this month. I usually try to go to at least one of the films, and get in some celebrity sightings. It's fun, to go to Park City, eat at fun restaurants, and watch a bad film or two. No offence but rarely have I walked away thinking "great movie" "riveting". The good films are usually hard to get into! One year I did get invited tp a private concert with the All American Rejects! It was an awesome concert!
So for this year here is my prop for Sundance. They have great products, jewelery, clothing, and furniture too! I received the catalogue in the mail and saw these beautiful earrings. They are worth checking out!

This bracelet is gorgeous too!

Cookie Conversion

I LOVE Snickerdoodles! They are one of my favorite cookies. I found a recipe a while back for Snickerdoodle muffins. I have been wanting to make them. Ryan loves to help me in the Kitchen, so tonight we made them together. (Ryan poured the ingredients in the mixing bowl)

It looks like a snickerdoodle on top, all crackly and cinnamony. Then in the middle soft and delightful. Here is the recipe:

Snickerdoodle Muffins
2 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
¾ tsp baking soda
¾ tsp baking powder
¾ tsp cream of tarter
¾ tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1 and ¼ cup sour cream
2 and ¼ cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar and 2 TBSP cinnamon mixed together for rolling
1.Cream the butter and sugar until soft about 3 to 5 minutes. Add in the vanilla. Add in the eggs one at a time and mix until each is incorporated.
2.In a separate, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder and cream of tarter.
3.Add the flour mixture and the sour cream alternately to the egg-butter mixture in the additions. Start with the flour and end with the flour. Scrape the bowl occasionally.
4. Using an ice cream scoop, scoop out muffin batter one at a time and drop into a shallow bowl filled with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Roll the muffin around in the mixture until it is covered completely in cinnamon sugar.. Place muffin in to muffin tin.. Depending on the size of your tins, you should get about 12 to 14 muffins. Bake them for approx. 20-22 minutes in a 350F oven or until they are golden brown.

Diaper cakes,Movies and Lasagna

My sister Cassi came over last night(Thurs) to do some girly bonding. Both of our husbands had basketball, so we were excited for the excuse to do whatever we wanted. I made a Lasagna and had dinner ready when she arrived. We worked on a project for a baby shower she was hosting in a couple of weeks.
Have any of you seen a diaper cake? I had never heard of such a thing, but after googling I was surprised to find a video to show me how it is done. I should have taken pictures, but I forgot to! So this one is not ours, but will give you the idea. It is a use able centerpiece, that the "mom to be" can take home with her. When Jamie got home he was laughing at us because he thought a cake made of diapers was the silliest thing. Oh well, it did turn out nice ,we used polka dot and red ribbons and rickrack!

We watched Music and Lyrics, and the Covenant(a movie about a group of really good looking warlocks). Both movies I give two thumbs up! It was fun, I hope we do it again soon!

Room that Inspires

This bathroom from pottery barn is really sheek! I love the mirror image, and the animal prints. The free standing tub, seems so romantic! I love the chair, and the use of different textures. Right now my eye loves rooms that are simple and clean. I would do something different with the walls, maybe a light blue or tan. I think it also needs a really shaggy rug to soften it up!

Determination, Relaxation

After a night of little sleep(Ryan is having trouble sleeping lately) I woke up this morning with the determination to get a few more loose ends completed for Savvy Nanny. I headed over to my friend Sadie's so she could help me format the family application. We got half of it done, and will have to keep working. But it is coming along! Sadie I owe you big time!

Yesterday I met up with a friend of mine Jessica for lunch, we went to our favorite place, the Porcupine Grill. On the way I was caught in a snow storm. I saw 6 accidents, and a semi that had flipped over. Once lunch was over the sun was out, and the roads were clear. That's a typical Utah Morning storm!

I made a Quiche, and am watching American Idol, relaxing! Enjoy your evening too!

Tissue Paper Fowers

This Bouquet was made from only tissue paper flowers! Pretty Amazing right?

These tissue paper flowers would be a great gift to give a loved one or a friend. I think they are beautiful. They should not take more than an afternoon to make, but would be a fun project. Thanks Martha!

Instructions:

Folded Petal Flower

Cut several 1 3/4-by-2 3/4-inch and 1 1/4-by-2-inch rectangles from tissue paper; fold each in half lengthwise; cut one end to be rounded, and twist other end to shape. For the center, roll white tissue paper into a tiny ball; cut out a square from white tissue paper, and wrap it around the ball, twisting tissue at its base. Attach the twisted end of the ball to a piece of floral wire by wrapping with green floral tape; add petals one at a time (start with small petals and end with large ones), taping twisted ends onto floral wire. Trim floral tape; spread out petals.

Bubble Petal
Each bloom requires 12 (or six pairs) stamens attached to floral wire with floral tape and five 4-by-2 1/4-inch pieces of tissue paper. For each petal, wrap tissue halfway around 1 1/2-inch Styrofoam ball, forming a half-sphere; twist ends, and remove ball. Attach one end of a petal to the base of stamen with floral tape. Add the other petals one at a time. Trim pointy ends. Gently pull petals away from center.

Parents Magazine

In this months Parents Magazine, they had the most beautiful and ( easy to make) Valentine treats! I love the presentation, colors everything! I am going to see how well I can copy the cookies,I would love to pipe like that! All the recipes are on their website!

Crayon Hearts

These are super cute! I think I will make them for our neighbors with kids, as a valentine from Ryan. I could use a few crayons like these. Ryan can't break them! Crayola crayons work the best. Don't use black or purple they are too dark.

2008 Design Forecast

I just finished Reading the 2008 Design forecast. I found it amusing because the colors that should be a huge smash this year are Bold shades of purple mixed with greys, golds and browns. The style is modern Moroccan. I personally don't really like either of these trends to come, but I do like the forecast of wild patterns and furs, and Asian twists. The most unique item I saw was metal plants and trees. Anyone care for a silver shiny plant? Could be fun in the right space.
